The 3D Studio Cohort Fellows will immerse themselves in a dynamic exploration of three-dimensional art techniques through this hands-on, studio-based course. Fellows will engage with a variety of materials and processes, including mixed media, clay, and found objects, to create innovative and meaningful works. The course will encourage creative experimentation while focusing on technical skill development and conceptual thinking. In addition to developing their own projects, Fellows will study the work of influential artists such as Simone Leigh and Theaster Gates, whose sculptures explore themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the intersection of race, gender, and history. Through these studies, Fellows will gain a deeper understanding of how three-dimensional art can serve as a powerful tool for storytelling, cultural expression, and social commentary.

Art History with Marcus Watson
An AP Art History teacher and professional artist, Marcus will build upon where fall Art History instructor, Traci Petersen left off by focusing on work from Renaissance to the present. Sessions will guide you making relevant social and historical connects within art history and analyzing works of art for their form, function, content, and context.
Registration for this session closes Wednesday, April 3rd

The 3D Studio Cohort Fellows are encouraged to participate in Open Studio sessions, held on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursdays from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 12:00 to 4:00 PM generally, unless additional year-long programming is scheduled.
These sessions offer Fellows dedicated time to work on their projects and receive support as needed. Fellows are also invited to engage in special projects within the 3D Studio. Please note that 3D work requires consistent attention and care, so regular attendance at Open Studio is strongly recommended to ensure progress and success.

Artwork Documentation Workshop with Andres Arauz
The way you document your art, whether it’s with photographs, video, or scans, can make or break your application. In many cases, this documentation will be the only account of your work that an admissions department is exposed to. This session will guide students in learning how to document them correctly for college applications, scholarships, and other opportunities.

All Fellows are encouraged to participate in monthly critiques, a cornerstone of the program designed to cultivate critical thinking and artistic growth. These structured group sessions provide a supportive platform for Fellows to present their work, engage in thoughtful discussions, and receive constructive feedback from their peers and mentors. By participating in these critiques, Fellows will develop the ability to analyze their own work objectively, identify areas for improvement, and refine their creative process. The program fosters a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued, encouraging open dialogue and the exchange of ideas.

This is a chance for Fellows and their families to get to know the program, meet the other Fellows, and connect with advisors in a casual setting. In addition to covering a few key details—like what to bring and travel logistics—you’ll have the opportunity to take headshots, mingle with other fellows, and start building relationships before the program officially begins.
